ANOTHER ROUND OF POP-UP STORMS TODAY… Thunderstorms will pop up later today across south Alabama and northwest Florida as our consistent, summertime weather pattern continues. Just like the last several days, most of the storms will happen in the afternoon and evening hours. Widespread severe storms are not expected locally. We note that a few strong to severe storms may be possible later today across parts of central and north Alabama. The Storm Prediction Center has the northern half of the state in a Level 1 (out of 5), low-end severe weather risk zone valid for today. The main concern will be gusty winds in the strongest of the storms.

CONSISTENT FORECAST: HEAT, HUMIDITY, P.M. STORMS… No real changes to report in the extended forecast. We have a chance of P.M. thunderstorms each day with high temperatures slated to be around the 90 degree mark. Morning lows will be in the low 70s. Humidity values will remain elevated through the next 7 days and the next several weeks. This consistent weather pattern is quite typical for this time of year.

TROPICS: HURRICANE ERICK TO MAKE LANDFALL IN MEXICO… Hurricane Erick is now a major hurricane set to make landfall over the next several hours along the Pacific coast of Mexico. Erick is expected to remain a major hurricane prior to landfall, meaning communities along the Mexican coast are likely to have extreme impacts. In addition to the high wind, heavy rain, and flash flooding impacts, mudslides may become a concern in parts of Mexico due to all of the flooding generated by Erick. No direct local impacts are expected because of Hurricane Erick in Alabama or Florida.

TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET, FOR NOW… The Gulf and Caribbean Sea are quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop over the next 5-7 days.
