HEAT INDEX IN EXCESS OF 100° TODAY & TOMORROW; HIGHER RAIN CHANCES LATER THIS WEEK… Air temperatures will likely reach the mid 90s in many locales across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday. Factor in the humidity and you get a heat index value in excess of 100° in many spots across the region this afternoon. Rain chances are lower, but not zero, today. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will likely bubble up this afternoon into this evening. The greatest chance of rain and thunderstorms will happen from 3PM to 8PM. Widespread severe weather is not expected today, but nuisance-type flooding may happen where storms train over the same areas along with loud thunder, cloud-to-ground lightning, and gusty winds in the strongest of the storms.

HIGHER RAIN CHANCES COMING LATER THIS WEEK… Our area is under a big ridge of high pressure, keeping the coverage of showers and thunderstorms in check today and tomorrow. This ridge will break down as we get into the latter part of the week, meaning higher rain chances and a higher coverage, overall, of showers and thunderstorms across south Alabama and northwest Florida.

TROPICS: DISTURBANCE EAST OF BERMUDA IN ATLANTIC… The area of disturbed weather in the Atlantic Ocean, located several hundred miles east of Bermuda, is weaker and is not expected to develop into a named tropical storm. The system will continue moving northeast, away from the United States.

TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET, FOR NOW… The Caribbean Sea and the Gulf are quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop over the next 5-7 days. The peak of the Atlantic hurricane season happens on September 11.
