MORE PULSE-TYPE THUNDERSTORMS TODAY… The meteorology world often calls pop-up thunderstorms “pulse-type thunderstorms,” as these storms pulse up and pulse down often just as quick. Scattered thunderstorms will become more numerous later this morning into the early afternoon hours. Storms will be capable (just like the last few days) of producing localized downpours, loud thunder, cloud-to-ground lightning, and flash flooding if storms train over the same areas. High temperatures will be around the 90 degree mark. More of the same is in store in the days ahead with P.M. storms continuing to be the norm.
TROPICS: ATLANTIC BASIN REMAINS QUIET… The Gulf, Caribbean, and Atlantic remain quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days. The climatological peak of hurricane season happens on September 11.
TROPICS: EASTERN PACIFIC ERICK TO BE HURRICANE AT LANDFALL IN MEXICO… Tropical Storm Erick is on the cusp of becoming a hurricane on this Wednesday. The center of the storm is expected to make landfall along the coast of Mexico tonight or early tomorrow (Thursday) as a hurricane or major hurricane. A Hurricane Warning is in effect from Puerto Angel to Punta Maldonado along the Pacific coast of Mexico. While direct local impacts from Erick are not expected in Alabama or Florida, this will be a significant storm for parts of southern Mexico in the days ahead.
