SUNNY TODAY; RAIN CHANCES UP FOR BLACK FRIDAY… Plenty of sunshine is expected on this Wednesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida ahead of rising rain chances for Black Friday. Thanksgiving is slated to be cool and mainly dry. Severe weather issues on Friday seem unlikely as of now. Our weather pattern will be unstable through Sunday when another round of storms is likely to move by. Let’s discuss details…

SUNNY & DRY TODAY… High temperatures will peak around 64° in most spots across the region this afternoon. Cloud coverage will start to increase later this evening ahead of our slight rain chance in place for the morning hours of Thanksgiving Day.

FEW SHOWERS EARLY THURSDAY… Similar to Tuesday, an area of showers and thunderstorms will likely move from west to east across the northern stretches of the Gulf of Mexico early on Thursday. This means that a few showers will be possible across coastal counties of the local area before Noon on Thanksgiving Day. Vast majority of us should be dry and cool throughout the day on Thanksgiving.

WET BLACK FRIDAY AHEAD… An area of low pressure that will develop in the western Gulf and move eastward will fling quite a bit of moisture into our area on Friday throughout the day. There could be periods of heavy rain at times. If you’re planning a big shopping event on Friday morning, I would definitely keep the rain gear handy.

SEVERE WEATHER RISK REMAINS LOW… All major global models show this area of low pressure that is moving by on Friday staying just to our south over the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. This means that the unstable warm sector south of the accompanying warm front will likely stay to our south. IF this scenario holds, that would mean the severe weather risk would basically be zero. I think due to the proximity to land, it is reasonable that there may be a few thunderstorms involved on Friday in and near coastal areas, but those storms will likely be elevated and well under severe limits.

IRON BOWL UPDATE… The latest model guidance continues to show that rain will likely be east of Tuscaloosa by the time the Iron Bowl starts on Saturday at 2:30PM CST. The ground will be quite wet for tailgating, but the trends clearly support a drier solution for the game on Saturday. I would take the rain gear just in case we have to fine tune the forecast even more.
