TORNADOES & SEVERE WEATHER HAPPENING TO THE NORTH
LOW-END RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER LOCALLY OVER NEXT FEW HOURS… Multiple supercell thunderstorms are producing tornadoes and damaging wind gusts across northeast Mississippi. We’ve had several tornado warnings across north Alabama over the last few hours with more on the way. A Tornado Watch continues for most counties in the northern half of Alabama until 10PM. For south Alabama and northwest Florida, the forecast remains on track with a low-end chance of a few strong to severe thunderstorms WEST of Interstate 65 later tonight. I’ve been posting many updates over the last few hours in the RedZone Weather app and that coverage will continue over the next several hours until the severe weather risk ends.
WHAT TO EXPECT – NEXT FEW HOURS… Other than a few, tiny areas of rainfall happening near Wing, Red Level, and Oaky Streak, vast majority of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida remain dry. The Mardi Gras parades in Mobile and Baldwin counties will likely be dry for the most part with heavier rain remaining to our west over the next 2-3 hours.
LOW-END CHANCE OF STRONG STORMS THIS EVENING… The timeframe for any strong storms that happen locally will be from 8PM to 2AM Sunday. There is a high chance that we will have no tornado warnings locally, but high chance does not mean “absolutely certain.” This means that there is a low chance that a strong storm may briefly produce damaging wind gusts or perhaps a brief tornado. IF we have any tornado warnings in our coverage area (as defined at redzoneweather.com/coverage), we’ll bring you our uninterrupted live coverage.
