FEW STORMS NEAR BEACHES THIS AFTERNOON; TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT NOT EXPECTED… Isolated showers and thunderstorms may happen this afternoon into this evening near the immediate shoreline of Alabama and northwest Florida. Vast majority of us will be dry and warm today with high temperatures near the 90 degree mark. Humidity levels will begin to creep back up today ahead of a hot, humid weekend that will feel much more typical for late July. The good news is we won’t be dealing with a tropical storm today or this weekend. Let’s look at your weekend forecast details…
ISOLATED STORMS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON… Rain chances will be between 10% and 20% this afternoon into this evening across Baldwin, Mobile, Escambia (FL), Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties. Most spots across inland areas will remain dry. High temperatures are expected to peak near 90° today. Not everyone will be wet, and there is a good chance that most of our beach areas will remain dry throughout the day. Any rain that does happen will be because of pop-up, brief thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Severe weather is not expected today.
SCATTERED STORMS THIS WEEKEND… More showers and thunderstorms will be around this weekend across the region. Most of the storm action will happen in the afternoon and evening hours when we have the most heat content in the atmosphere. Storms will be scattered, meaning some spots may have no rain while some have multiple rounds of rain and storms. High temperatures will be in the low-90s with morning lows in the low-70s.
TROPICAL UPDATE… The National Hurricane Center now says that the area of disturbed weather in the north-central Gulf of Mexico associated with an old frontal boundary now has a near 0% chance of developing into a classified tropical system. Good news! The rest of the tropical Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea are quiet. No tropical storm formation is expected in the next 4-6 days.
MORE POP-UP STORMS LIKELY EARLY NEXT WEEK… There is nothing in the medium-range model guidance to suggest anything “abnormal” for late July into early August. We’ll have a round of showers and thunderstorms pretty much each afternoon in the upcoming week. High temperatures are slated to be in the low-90s with morning lows around 70.
