SCATTERED STORMS DURING P.M. HOURS; T.S. CHANTAL FORMS… If you’re a fan of our hot, humid summer pattern with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours, then you’re in luck as we’ll have more of that same pattern over the next 7-9 days. If you’re not a fan of the heat and humidity, take solace in the fact that no local tropical issues are expected over the next 5-7 days as we approach the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season in September. The National Hurricane Center did start issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Chantal late last evening but the system will NOT affect any land areas. We’ll have yet another round of showers and thunderstorms today, primarily in the afternoon and evening hours. That will be the story into the upcoming weekend as well. Let’s talk details…
POP-UP THUNDERSTORMS TODAY AND THURSDAY… Thunderstorms will likely pop up in the heat of the day today and again on Thursday afternoon. Storms will be most numerous in the peak heating hours of the day (1PM to 6PM). Widespread severe weather is not expected, but some of the stronger storms will produce heavy rain, gusty winds, and cloud-to-ground lightning. FIRST LOOK AT THE WEEKEND FORECAST… Rain chances will remain elevated (40-70%) as we go into Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. High temperatures will consistently be in the low-90s with morning lows around the 70 degree mark. There will be some sunshine each day, particularly in the morning hours. Storms will be most numerous in the afternoon and evening hours.
TROPICAL STORM CHANTAL… Tropical Storm Chantal formed last evening about 500 miles south of Nova Scotia in Canada. Chantal is packing maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. The system will remain over the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean and not affect any land areas. The National Hurricane Center says no new tropical development is expected in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic Ocean over the next 5 days.
