SUNNY DAYS AHEAD; IOTA MADE LANDFALL IN NICARAGUA… Gorgeous days are set to continue with ample sunshine across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures on this Tuesday will be around 70 in most spots. While there are no imminent tropical threats for the local area, Hurricane Iota became the strongest hurricane observed so far in the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season yesterday. Iota strengthened to category 5 intensity, the latest cat. 5 storm ever observed in the basin. The storm made landfall late last night in northeastern Nicaragua, in the exact same area that Hurricane Eta so heavily affected only two weeks ago.

ANOTHER COOL NIGHT AHEAD… Overnight lows will again be in the low- to mid-40s by 6AM Wednesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Clear skies are expected this evening into the overnight hours.

HIGH TEMPS NEAR 70 IN DAYS AHEAD… Sunny skies are set to continue through at least Saturday with clear skies in the forecast for each night ahead. High temperatures will consistently be around the 70 degree mark through Thursday. Temperatures will moderate a bit into the upper-70s and approach 80 by the time we get into Sunday and Monday.

40% CHANCE OF DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN… The National Hurricane Center continues to indicate there is a chance of yet another tropical storm forming in the southwestern part of the Caribbean Sea, perhaps east of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. NHC puts the probability of this happening at a 40% chance as of now. Note this is a totally separate system from Hurricane Iota. From NHC: A new area of low pressure could form in a couple of days over the central or southwestern Caribbean Sea. Environmental conditions should favor some subsequent development, and a tropical depression could form by the end of the week while the system moves slowly westward or west-southwestward across the southwestern Caribbean Sea.”

NO SEVERE WEATHER IN SIGHT, FOR NOW… November and December constitutes our secondary tornado season around the Deep South, but at this point I don’t see any signs of imminent severe weather threats in the short-term or long-term on the global model guidance. We will keep watching over the next few weeks.
