CLOUDS MOVING OUT; COOL DAYS AHEAD… After scattered showers last night, we dry out on this Monday as cooler, more stable air moves into our region behind a cold front. Clouds will progressively move out throughout the day. Temperatures will peak in the low-60s this afternoon around 2PM. We have had several days of slightly warmer conditions, but tonight will be different now that the cold front has passed through. Overnight lows will be in the mid- to upper-30s. Looking ahead, our next rain chance happens on Wednesday. We get a break from the rain on Thursday and Friday ahead of another chance of rain and storms on Saturday. That is the summary, below are all of your Monday morning forecast details.

LOWS IN THE 30s TONIGHT… Overnight lows will range from near 40 closer to the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches to the mid-30s near communities like Thomasville, Beatrice, and Greenville in the interior of southwest Alabama. Skies will clear later today, allowing rapid escape of heat content in the atmosphere. Temperatures will be in the 40s in most spots by 7PM this evening. Below freezing temperatures are not expected locally tonight, but we could have some locales reaching the 32 degree mark early Friday morning.

PARTLY CLOUDY ON TUESDAY; CLOUDS INCREASE TUESDAY NIGHT… We start the day with mostly sunny skies on Tuesday morning with increasing cloudiness throughout the day and into the evening hours. Highs on Tuesday will be in the low-60s. There could be a few showers, especially closer to the coast, late Tuesday night. Vast majority of the rain associated with this approaching surface low pressure area will happen on Wednesday.

SCATTERED SHOWERS LIKELY AT TIMES ON WEDNESDAY… Rain and thunderstorms will become likely near the coast on Wednesday as a developing area of low pressure from the Gulf moves northeast. This will usher in showers and storms into the region from the south. Right now, it seems like parameters for severe storms will remain quite low, thus I expect this to be more of a rain event as opposed to a severe weather setup. Rain will likely move out late in the day on Wednesday. Highs will be in the low-60s.

MOSTLY SUNNY & COOLER ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY…Our coolest mornings of the week will happen on Thursday and Friday as overnight lows approach the freezing mark each morning. Sunny skies are expected each day. Highs will drop into the 50s on Thursday. Note that rain should be long gone by the time the cooler air arrives early Thursday morning, so unfortunately for snow lovers, still nothing in the forecast models that would suggest that potential.

SHOWERS AND STORMS THIS WEEKEND… Model guidance has been consistent in suggesting a chance of showers and thunderstorms for the upcoming weekend (Saturday and Sunday, December 19 and 20). It is too early to know if severe storms will be a real possibility, but since we are in our secondary severe weather season, this will be yet another system worth watching in the days ahead. Showers and storms will likely be most numerous Saturday evening into Sunday morning.

SHOWERS MOVING EAST… The heavier band of rain we’ve been tracking over the last few hours in Mississippi has moved into west Alabama. This heavier line of showers extends from Woods Bluff to Deer Park to Hurley, MS as of 12:19AM.

This line of showers will continue to move eastward over the next few hours. Gusty (10-20 mph) winds are expected as this line of showers moves by.

Breezy conditions are happening in advance of the line of showers across much of the area.

Widespread severe weather is not expected through dawn or during the daytime hours on this Monday.
