MORE THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY EACH DAY THIS WEEK; TROPICS QUIET… Pop-up showers and thunderstorms will be possible today and over the next several days as our summer deluge of rain is set to continue. High temperatures on this Monday will be in the upper-80s. There is an off chance a few locales may even hit the 90 degree mark this afternoon. Rain and storms will be scattered in nature today, but there is a high chance most spots across the region will have rain at least once before the end of the day. Widespread severe weather is not expected today, but some of the thunderstorms may be loud at times. Cloud-to-ground lightning, very heavy downpours of rain, and gusty winds will be possible. I will have radar updates posted throughout the day as needed in the RedZone Weather app. A few more Monday morning forecast details are below.

NO REAL CHANGE TO OUR WEATHER FORECAST… It is fairly typical in the months of June, July, and August to have very little in the way of variance in our weather forecasts across our region. If you with “a chance of rain and storms at times with highs near 90,” there is high chance you’ll nail the forecast each day. Obviously, tropical storms and hurricanes throw a wrench into things and can significantly increase rain chances and lower temperatures. Fortunately, there are currently no indications of any tropical systems in the Gulf. This means that our pattern this week will be seasonal with a chance of rain and storms each day with highs near the 90 degree mark and lows in the low-70s.

ATLANTIC BASIN IS QUIET, FOR NOW… The National Hurricane Center indicates in their Tropical Weather Outlook that tropical storm formation is not expected over the next 5-7 days in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or the Atlantic Ocean. The Saharan Air Layer (SAL) is quite pronounced right now over much of the tropical Atlantic. This means that thick dust will keep tropical development suppressed most likely for the next several days. Let us hope this pattern holds into the latter half of July and into August!
