MORE POP-UP THUNDERSTORMS AT TIMES TODAY… Just like clockwork, showers and thunderstorms will pop up on this Wednesday, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. Not every location will have rain across the region today, but most will have a brief period of rain at some point. High temperatures will be in the low-90s today. This weekend, we may have a bit of relief from the widespread rain and storms although rain chances will certainly not be zero. A few more Wednesday morning forecast details are below.
SPLASH AND DASH THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE… Widespread severe weather is not expected locally today, but the thunderstorms that do form will likely produce heavy rain, gusty winds, and cloud-to-ground lightning. Rain chances will peak today during the P.M. hours.
TROPICAL DISTURBANCE NORTH OF BERMUDA… The National Hurricane Center gives an area of low pressure north of Bermuda in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean a 10% chance of becoming a tropical storm as the system slowly drifts south. This system will never be an issue for south Alabama or northwest Florida, regardless of if formal development happens. From NHC: “Satellite derived surface wind data indicate that the non-tropical area of low pressure, located several hundred miles southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland, is producing winds below gale force and limited showers and thunderstorms. Although environmental conditions are only marginally favorable during the next couple of days, some slight development is possible as it drifts generally southward over warmer waters. Toward the end of the week, the low is expected to accelerate north-northeastward and open up into a trough of low pressure in response to an approaching frontal system moving off of the New England coast.”
REMAINDER OF ATLANTIC BASIN IS QUIET, FOR NOW… The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean between the Lesser Antilles and Africa is currently devoid of any systems that are expected to develop into tropical storms over the next 3-5 days.
