TROPICAL DEPRESSION 9 FORMS; NORTHERN GULF COAST LANDFALL LIKELY… Advisories have been started on Tropical Depression 9, located in the northern Caribbean Sea near Jamaica. This system is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm in the hours ahead. This system will take the name “Ida” or “Julian” soon. Local impacts in south Alabama and northwest Florida will be possible late Sunday, into Monday and Tuesday, including the potential for tornadoes, flash flooding, heavy rain, gusty winds at the immediate coast, and coastal hazards, including rip currents. Note that our area will likely be on the volatile eastern side of this developing system, thus the increased risk for impacts.

APP ALERTS… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.

I will have more detailed updates posted later today.
