IDA NOW A DANGEROUS, CAT. 4 HURRICANE; RAPID STRENGTHENING CONTINUES… Hurricane Ida has explosively strengthened over the last 2-3 hours. The National Hurricane Center indicates maximum sustained winds have increased to at least 130 mph, making Ida a powerful, category 4 hurricane. Further strengthening is possible before landfall, which is expected to occur later today in Southeast Louisiana. Catastrophic impacts are likely near Grand Isle, Louisiana and surrounding areas in SE Louisiana.
