DAMAGING WIND GUSTS POSSIBLE TONIGHT AS STORMS MOVE SOUTH… Severe thunderstorms across parts of central Alabama are moving south this evening, downing trees and power lines and causing massive amounts of lightning and thunder. At the time I am typing this update at 7:40PM, severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for parts of Montgomery, Lowndes, Dallas, Marengo, Tallapoosa, Elmore, Autauga, Bullock, Macon, Perry, Hale, and Sumter counties. This line of storms basically stretches across the state and is moving to the south. Storms will enter Choctaw, Wilcox, Clarke, Monroe, Butler, Conecuh, Crenshaw, and Washington counties over the next several hours. While I do expect a slight weakening trend as storms continue to move south, I also would not be surprised if we had multiple communities with trees being blown down in the hours ahead. This is NOT a tornado setup, but this is a situation where we could have power outages in the hours ahead.
STORM TIMING – TONIGHT… A gust front has developed out ahead of the main line of thunderstorms that is downing trees in parts of Autauga County in advance of the arrival of thunderstorms. This could be a concern as early as 9PM across inland communities such as Thomasville, Beatrice, and Greenville. Storms will gradually cross our region from 9PM to 3AM. Again, this is NOT a tornado setup, but thunderstorms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts that may knock down a few trees and power lines. If your location goes under a severe thunderstorm warning tonight, be inside and away from windows.
A NOTE ABOUT OUR COVERAGE TONIGHT… Our policy concerning severe weather coverage has not changed since I started RedZone Weather several years ago. We “go live” and stay live anytime there is a tornado warning polygon in effect for any of our 12 primary coverage area counties. Tornado warnings are not expected tonight. Thus, I will be covering these storms in the RedZone Weather app and providing live video updates IF warranted. This post may be the only post I publish on Facebook this evening. If you want a “play-by-play” as we do in tornado warnings, download our free RedZone Weather app and set up alerts. redzoneweather.com/app is the link where you can download the app and redzoneweather.com/coverage details our specific coverage policy.
APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
I will have your next full forecast video posted by 7:15AM tomorrow morning. More updates will be posted in the hours ahead in the RedZone Weather app. Have a nice Thursday!
