TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea continue to be quiet with no tropical storms expected to form over the next few days. The Atlantic Ocean, on the other hand, has two tropical disturbances we are tracking today.
TROPICS: TROPICAL DISTURBANCE IN CENTRAL ATLANTIC… The tropical wave we have been tracking over the last several days in the central Atlantic Ocean has started moving north. This is good news as the system will likely never impact land areas. From NHC: “Shower and thunderstorm activity has become a little more concentrated in association with an area of low pressure located about 700 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands. Environmental conditions are forecast to be marginally favorable for gradual development of this system over the next few days, and a tropical depression is likely to form during the early part of this week. The system is expected to move northwestward at about 15 mph during the next day or so, and then turn northward over the central subtropical Atlantic by late Monday or Tuesday.”
TROPICS: LOW PRESSURE AREA OFF CAROLINA COAST… An area of disturbed weather (branded as INVEST 97L) is located about 100 miles southeast of Morehead City, North Carolina. This area of low pressure will continue to move northeast and ultimately out to sea to the east of the continental United States over the next few days. NHC indicates there is a 30% chance of this system becoming a named tropical storm while moving east over the western Atlantic Ocean. No direct impacts from this system are expected in Alabama or northwest Florida.
