INCREASING RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… Hot temperatures are in store for today, tomorrow, and Friday ahead of much higher rain chances this weekend into early next week.
HEAT INDEX VALUES NEAR 110° TODAY; HIGHER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… Temperatures approaching the 100 degree mark are expected today across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Factor in the humidity and you’ll find heat index values in the 105-110° range this afternoon into this evening. Rain chances will be at their lowest point today with very few in the way of showers and thunderstorms across the region. Rain chances are set to rise as we get into the upcoming weekend with more showers and thunderstorms expected to develop across south Alabama and northwest Florida, mostly in the afternoon and evening hours.
GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET, FOR NOW… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea remain quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next several days. Tropical Storm Don, located well away from any land areas over the northern Atlantic Ocean, will move out to sea in a few days. No direct U.S. impacts are expected from Tropical Storm Don. Parts of Hawaii are experiencing mostly minor impacts from Tropical Storm Calvin today into tonight.
LOW RIP CURRENT RISK TODAY… The overall risk of rip currents at the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches remains low today. Be aware that sometimes, even on low risk days, rogue rip currents can and do happen. Green and yellow flags will likely be flying at many local beaches.
