FEW STORMS NEAR COAST TODAY; HIGH TEMPS CLOSER TO SEASONAL NORMS TODAY… Due to an ever so slightly cooler, drier airmass in place across south Alabama and northwest Florida, most of the region will remain dry today. Temperatures will not be AS hot as previous days with high temps expected to be in the low- to mid-90s across the region. A few showers and thunderstorms may develop near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches this afternoon into this evening. Unfortunately, temperatures will increase in the days ahead. We will have high temperatures in the upper-90s across the region this weekend into early next week.

TROPICS: 20% CHANCE OF TROPICAL STORM FORMING IN GULF… The National Hurricane Center indicates there is a low-end chance of a tropical storm forming in the central or western Gulf of Mexico in 5-7 days, potentially in the latter half of the weekend or early next week. Way too early to know any specifics, but global models have hinted at the possibility of a tropical storm forming. Early indications point to the system moving westward, potentially toward the Texas or Louisiana coast. It remains too early to know more information. I will have more info over the next few days. Please check back in for updates.

TROPICS: TWO TROPICAL DISTURBANCES MAY DEVELOP IN EASTERN ATLANTIC… The National Hurricane Center indicates two tropical disturbances could potentially develop into named tropical storms in about a week across the far eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean. These systems would originate from tropical waves that move off the western coast of Africa. Right now, NHC gives a 30% chance and a separate 30% chance of two separate storms developing this weekend or early next week. This continues to be nothing to worry about for now, but this is something to be aware of, particularly as we are approaching the climatological peak of the hurricane season in about one month.
