TROPICAL STORM MAY FORM IN GULF IN NEXT FEW DAYS; VERY HOT TEMPS LOCALLY… Hot temperatures and high index values will continue to be our lead weather headline locally across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Saturday. High temperatures will be in the upper-90s and near 100° with heat index values in the 107-113° range this afternoon. Hot temperatures are here to stay for at least the next 7 days. We continue to monitor a tropical wave currently pushing across The Bahamas that will move across the Gulf of Mexico during the upcoming week.

40-50% CHANCE OF TROPICAL STORM FORMING IN GULF… Early model indications continue to point to the potential for a tropical storm to develop in the central or western Gulf of Mexico next week before pushing westward into Texas. From NHC: “An area of disturbed weather located over the central Bahamas is forecast to move into the Gulf of Mexico by early next week, where a broad area of low pressure could form. Thereafter, some slow development of this system is possible and a tropical depression could form as it moves westward and approaches the western Gulf of Mexico coastline by the middle of next week.”

HURRICANE HILARY MOVING NORTH TOWARD CALIFORNIA… Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for parts of Southern California for the first time ever ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Hilary, likely to be a tropical storm while moving north across that region on Sunday into Monday. The main impact for Southern California is expected to be heavy rain that could lead to widespread, intense flash flooding. Gusty winds will also be a concern along with at least some tornado potential. Hurricane Warnings are also in effect for parts of the Baja Peninsula of Mexico today as the core of Hilary approaches from the south. While Hilary will be a notable weather system for California and much of the western United States, the system poses no direct threats to Alabama or northwest Florida.
