EXTREME HEAT CONTINUES TODAY; P.M. STORMS IN DAYS AHEAD… Heat index values will again be in the 110-115° range this afternoon into this evening as our pattern of extreme heat and humidity continues across south Alabama and northwest Florida. While a few pop-up storms may develop this afternoon into this evening, most of us across the local area will remain dry today. Storms are expected to pass to our northeast, for the most part today, as a cluster of storms moves from northwest to southeast across Alabama. Some of the storms, especially across north and central Alabama, may be strong or severe today with damaging wind gusts being the main concern.

ATLANTIC BASIN QUIET, FOR NOW… The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean remain quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop over the next 5-7 days. The 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season will peak on September 11. Hurricane season runs through November 30 each year.

HURRICANE DORA & T.S. EUGENE IN PACIFIC BASIN… Category 4 Hurricane Dora continues to rapidly move westward across the Pacific Ocean. Dora is an annular hurricane, meaning it has a defined eye and incredible structure that only a few major hurricanes ever attain. Dora will pass well to the south of Hawaii in the open waters of the Pacific Ocean over the next few days. Tropical Storm Eugene is basically paralleling the western coast of Mexico while pushing northwest. Neither storm will ever be a direct issue for Alabama or Florida.
