HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES TODAY AND WEDNESDAY; STORMS POSSIBLE NEAR COAST… Rain is the word today, tonight, and into Wednesday with upwards of 2 to 4 inches of total rainfall being possible over the next 36 hours. This will be a wonderful, quite beneficial rain event for our local area, helping to put a dent into the ongoing drought conditions. High temperatures may struggle to get to the 60 degree mark farther inland with low-60s likely closer to the coast. Rain will stick around into Wednesday ahead of drier conditions setting up for Friday and the weekend.

FLASH FLOODING CONCERNS NEAR THE COAST… Most spots north of Interstate 10 will not have to contend with flash flooding issues but we may see a few areas closer to the coast experience nuisance-type flooding or flash flooding IF storms train over the same areas through Wednesday afternoon. Most locales near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches are likely to pick up between 3 and 4 inches of rainfall in total through Wednesday evening with 1-3″ of total rainfall being the norm farther inland.

A FEW STORMS NEAR THE COAST… Nearly all of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida will be north of a warm front that will move by late tonight or early on Wednesday. This means that the overall air mass across our region will remain stable and not supportive of tornadoes or severe storms. Isolated strong to severe storms may happen across the northern Gulf of Mexico and perhaps in areas just south of the immediate shoreline on Wednesday. While you may hear some thunder at times, the overall risk of any hazardous convective weather remains quite low.

70% CHANCE OF TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT IN CARIBBEAN SEA… The National Hurricane Center indicates there is a 70% chance of a tropical storm forming in the southwestern or central Caribbean Sea in the days ahead. From NHC: “A broad area of low pressure is expected to form over the southwestern Caribbean Sea in the next few days. Environmental conditions appear favorable for additional development of this system thereafter, and a tropical depression is likely to form late this week while the system begins moving northeastward across the western and central portions of the Caribbean Sea. Interests in Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic should monitor the progress of this system. Regardless of development, this system has the potential to produce heavy rains over portions of the Caribbean coast of Central America and the Greater Antilles towards to latter portions of this week.”
