ANOTHER COLD DAY & VERY COLD NIGHT; TEMPS IN 10s AGAIN THIS WEEKEND… Temperatures have reached the mid-10s this morning with wind chill values in the single digits across parts of our local area. A Hard Freeze Warning and Wind Chill Advisory continue until 9AM. Temperatures will be above freezing by 11AM across the region with high temperatures likely to be in the mid-40s this afternoon. We have another very cold night in store for south Alabama and northwest Florida. Most spots will be in the low-20s by 6AM Thursday. Unfortunately, another Arctic air mass will move into our region this weekend, paving the way for high temperatures in the 40s with lows in the low-20s on Saturday and Sunday.
RAIN POSSIBLE TOMORROW NIGHT… Low-end rain chances are in store for tomorrow night into Friday. No snow or mixed precipitation is expected with this passing system as temperatures will be in the 40s all night on Thursday night into Friday morning. Scattered showers will be possible until Friday midday. No severe storms are expected with this passing weather system.
VERY COLD THIS WEEKEND… Behind the rain on Friday, we have another reinforcing shot of Arctic cold air set to move into our region. Overnight lows on Saturday morning will be in the upper-10s inland with low-20s closer to the coast. High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be in the 40s. Overnight lows on Sunday morning will be in the low-20s. Very cold conditions this weekend! Fortunately, no rain or precipitation around to complicate travel.
WARMER TEMPS NEXT WEEK… Our local area will likely experience a warm up as we get into early next week. High temperatures will be in the 60s by Tuesday with a chance of rain and thunderstorms. The pattern toward the middle and end of next week looks increasingly active with multiple chance of rain and storms. It is a bit too early to speculate whether severe storms may be realistically possible. I will monitor trends over the next few days and bring you the latest in the RedZone Weather app.

COLDEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR TONIGHT; LOWS IN 10s & SINGLE DIGIT WIND CHILL VALUES… Tonight has a very high chance of being the coldest night of the entire calendar year as overnight lows will dip into the low-10s. That is the number you’ll see on the thermometer tomorrow morning around 6AM. The numbers highlighted in the map attached show what the air will feel like, aka the wind chill values, at 6AM Wednesday. This will be brutally cold air for our local area! A Hard Freeze Warning and Wind Chill Alert remain in effect for all of south Alabama and northwest Florida.
BLACK ICE CONCERNS ON AREA ROADWAYS… While much of the local area has dried out due to the very cold, dry air now in place across the region, there are lingering puddles that will quickly freeze over the next few hours. Temperatures remain below freezing as of 7:30PM in many spots, thus the black ice situation on local roadways will not be improving until the afternoon hours tomorrow when we rise above the freezing mark. I am most concerned about the black ice patches on area roadways in parts of Washington, Choctaw, Clarke, Marengo, Wilcox, and Monroe counties in west Alabama. Travel is strongly discouraged in these counties until midday tomorrow at the earliest. Even in counties south and east of I-65, a few patches of black ice will be possible. Drive slow and easy and DO NOT engage in sudden braking or sudden acceleration!
SUNNY, COLD WEDNESDAY… High temperatures will be in the mid-40s Wednesday afternoon with mostly sunny skies expected throughout the day. We will have another night with lows in the 20s by Thursday morning. Temperatures will begin to moderate somewhat Thursday night into Friday. Despite rain being in the forecast Thursday night, for now, there is no indication of mixed precipitation or snow as temperatures will very likely be too warm.
