LINE OF STORMS TO CROSS REGION TUESDAY MORNING; A FEW SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE… Thunderstorms are likely late Monday night into Tuesday morning across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Some of the storms may be strong or severe, with damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes being possible. Please have a way to hear warnings tomorrow night before you go to sleep as the line of storms will probably move into our local area very early Tuesday morning before most folks wake up. Storms will clear out to the east Tuesday in the late morning hours. The good news is storms will probably be weakening on approach AND while crossing our region from west to east, however a few stronger storms will be possible while storms move across the local area.
WIND ADVISORY MONDAY INTO TUESDAY… Gusty winds are expected throughout the day tomorrow (Monday) into Monday night. Note these will be pressure gradient winds not associated with the thunderstorms forecast to move through early Tuesday morning. Sustained winds of 20-30 mph will be possible across the region with wind gusts as high as 45 mph. The National Weather Service includes ALL of southwest Alabama and northwest Florida in a Wind Advisory from 10AM Monday to 7AM Tuesday. Bring any loose outside objects or decorations inside tonight before winds increase tomorrow!
SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – LATE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY MORNING… 1AM to 10AM Tuesday is the nine hour window when strong to severe thunderstorms are MOST likely to happen across south Alabama and northwest Florida. A line of storms will enter west Alabama from Mississippi between 1AM and 3AM. This line of storms will gradually cross the region from west to east. The line of storms will likely be gradually weakening while moving across the region.
MAIN CONCERNS: DAMAGING WIND GUSTS & TORNADOES… Much of west Alabama is involved in the Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk where tornadoes and damaging wind gusts will be MOST likely to happen locally on Tuesday morning. The overall risk is a bit lower farther east, but the risk is not zero. It will be important that we all have multiple ways to hear warnings Monday night into Tuesday morning. Have a way to hear warnings tomorrow night BEFORE you go to sleep as warnings may be required before you wake up Tuesday morning. I will have plenty of updates posted throughout the night (tomorrow night) in the RedZone Weather app and as always, we will “go live” and stay live if tornado warnings are needed locally.
