HEAVY RAIN & STORMS THRU TONIGHT; SEVERE WEATHER RISK OVER FOR MOST… Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flash flooding will continue to be possible into tonight. The severe weather risk, however, is probably over for most, if not all of us. Let me abundantly clear that the odds of a tornado happening locally this evening are very, very low now that a powerful bow echo has pushed across our region, causing damage in several counties. The Tornado Watch has been cancelled for all local counties and the severe weather risk zones have been taken out for our local area. I cannot completely rule out a few isolated stronger storms later this evening that produce brief gusty winds and small hail, but the overall tornado risk appears to be quite, quite low, if not zero in most spots.
STORM DAMAGE IN MOBILE & ESCAMBIA (FL) COUNTIES… The hardest hit communities in Alabama and northwest Florida today seem to have been areas near Mobile and Pensacola. We have several reports of trees being down in parts of Mobile and Escambia (FL) counties with some structural damage also noted. The National Weather Service will send out survey teams in the days ahead to see if the damage was caused by tornadoes or damaging straight line winds. No reported injuries or fatalities, thankfully!
I will have more updates posted, as needed, over the next several hours in the RedZone Weather app. Have a nice Wednesday evening!
