POP-UP STORMS OVER NEXT FEW DAYS… P.M. thunderstorms will be a fixture of the forecast over the next 7 days. High temperature will be in the low- to mid-90s after today, aka more seasonal for high temp values.
SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS POP-UP STORMS TODAY; HEAT INDEX VALUES AGAIN NEAR 105°… Rain chances will rise on this Wednesday as scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms become likely in the afternoon and evening hours. Not every community will have rain before the end of the day, but MANY across the region will have rain and storms around. Widespread severe storms are not expected but thunderstorms will be capable of producing loud thunder, cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds, and localized heavy downpours of rain. These pulse-type thunderstorms will fade away after sunset. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s today with heat index values again near 105° in many spots across the region.
HIGHER RAIN CHANCES TODAY, TOMORROW, AND FRIDAY… If you miss out on the rain today, higher (60-70%) rain chances are in the forecast for tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday. Most of these thunderstorms will happen in the afternoon and evening hours each day. High temperatures are expected to be closer to the 90 degree mark each afternoon starting tomorrow.
P.M. STORMS TO CONTINUE THIS WEEKEND… P.M. thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday and Sunday as well. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-90s this weekend.
TROPICS: INVEST 94L MOVING WEST IN CARIBBEAN SEA… The tropical wave we have been tracking in the eastern Caribbean Sea continues to have intermittent bursts of convection while moving westward. The system has been branded as INVEST 94L, meaning this is an “investigation area” that will be watched while the system continues to move toward the Yucatan Peninsula. The National Hurricane Center indicates this tropical wave has a 10-20% chance of becoming a named tropical storm as it approaches the western Caribbean Sea, the Yucatan Peninsula, and the Bay of Campeche region in the far southern Gulf of Mexico. This system is something to monitor over the next several days, but nothing to worry about for now. Direct local impacts in south Alabama and northwest Florida continue to seem unlikely.
TROPICS: ANOTHER TROPICAL WAVE TO WATCH IN EASTERN ATLANTIC… Global models have latched onto the idea of a tropical wave potentially becoming more organized in about a week in the main development region (MDR) of the Atlantic Ocean between the Lesser Antilles and the western coast of Africa. We will continue to monitor model guidance on this idea. No formal risk zone has been indicated (yet) by NHC, but I suspect we will see an area of concern be issued in the Tropical Weather Outlooks in the days ahead.
TROPICS: GULF QUIET, FOR NOW… There is no immediate threat of any tropical storms forming in the Gulf of Mexico over the next 5 days. The next chance of a named tropical storm happening in the Gulf of Mexico region looks to be in about 5-7 days when the tropical wave (INVEST 94L, discussed above) moves in from the southeast.
