SLIGHTLY HIGHER CHANCES OF P.M. STORMS THIS WEEKEND; MORE RAIN NEXT WEEK… Today (Friday) will probably be the driest day out of the next 7 days with very low (10%) chances of rain. Rain chances will gradually creep up over the weekend ahead of high rain chances each day next week. Skies will remain mostly sunny across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s.

HIGHER RAIN CHANCES NEXT WEEK… Scattered to numerous pop-up showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across much of the area each day during the upcoming week. Widespread severe storms seem unlikely, but the stronger storms will be capable of producing localized

TROPICS: DISTURBANCE APPROACHING JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA… An area of low pressure is approaching south Georgia and north Florida, generally in the vicinity of the Jacksonville, Florida metro area. This small, compact tropical disturbance has a chance of briefly becoming a named tropical storm today before moving inland. This feature will bring rain to parts of north Florida and Georgia today and tomorrow before dissipating. If the feature does become a named storm, the system will not be over water for very long before making landfall. Direct local impacts in Alabama and northwest Florida are not expected due to this system.

TROPICS: ALBERTO DISSIPATES OVER MEXICO… The final advisory has been issued by the National Hurricane Center for Tropical Depression Alberto. The system has dissipated over the high terrain of Mexico.

TROPICS: ANOTHER LOW IN SOUTHWESTERN GULF… Right on the heels of Alberto, another, separate tropical disturbance is forecast to develop in or near the Bay of Campeche region in the far southern Gulf of Mexico. This system will likely never directly affect Alabama or northwest Florida. From NHC: “A broad area of low pressure is forecast to form over southeastern Mexico and northern Central America today. Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development after this system moves over the Bay of Campeche on Saturday, and a tropical depression could form over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico this weekend while it moves slowly west-northwestward or northwestward.”
