SCATTERED STORMS TODAY & INTO WEEKEND; BERYL TO MOVE TOWARD TEXAS… Showers and thunderstorms will again dot the landscape across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday. High temperatures are expected to be in the 92-95° range with heat index values again in excess of 105° in many spots across the region. Widespread severe thunderstorms are rather unlikely today but some of the thunderstorms may ramp up and produce gusty winds, cloud-to-ground lightning, loud thunder, and heavy downpours of rain. There is a chance today we may see more of an organized batch of storms move in from the north that would be potentially capable of producing gusty winds. I will have more details about this, as needed, in the RedZone Weather app.
CONSISTENT, SEASONAL SUMMER FORECAST THRU NEXT WEEK… Scattered thunderstorms will continue to be in our local forecast through the weekend and into early next week. High temperatures will continue to be in the 90s with morning lows in the 70s. Most of the rain and storms will be in the afternoon and evening hours each day.
TROPICS: BERYL TO EMERGE INTO GULF AND MOVE TOWARD NORTH MEXICO & TEXAS… Hurricane Beryl is very near the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico on this Friday morning. Beryl will cross the northern part of the Yucatan Peninsula and emerge into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico later today or tonight. Beryl will continue to move northwest, around the southwestern periphery of an upper ridge of high pressure that will guide Beryl generally toward northern Mexico and Texas. Potentially significant impacts will be possible in northern Mexico and in parts of Texas.
TROPICS: INVEST 96L NOT LIKELY TO DEVELOP… The tropical wave we have been tracking for quite awhile that has moved across the Atlantic Ocean and is now in the central Caribbean Sea is not likely to develop. There is a 10-20% chance of development into a named tropical storm while the tropical wave (INVEST 96L) continues to move eastward. We will continue to monitor this system until it dissipates completely or moves onto land, likely “right behind” Beryl into the Yucatan Peninsula over the next few days.
