ISOLATED STORMS TODAY AND THIS WEEKEND; HIGHER RAIN CHANCES NEXT WEEK… Spotty P.M. storms will develop this afternoon into this evening. Rain chances remain low today, but not zero. This means that most communities across the region will remain dry, but some spots will be fortunate enough to have downpours at times. Rain probably won’t last long for any given location but any rain will certainly be beneficial. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-90s today and in the days ahead. Rain chances will remain low (not zero!) through the weekend. Higher rain chances are on the way for next week!
TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE IN CENTRAL ATLANTIC… The National Hurricane Center now has two areas of concern highlighted in the Atlantic Ocean that may become tropical storms over the next several days. The first tropical wave is located in the central Atlantic Ocean, almost halfway between the Lesser Antilles and the western coast of Africa. The system will approach the Lesser Antilles over the Labor Day holiday weekend. NHC gives this “leading” tropical wave a 50% chance of becoming a named tropical storm as it approaches the Lesser Antilles.
TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE MOVING OFF WEST COAST OF AFRICA… Several hundred miles to the east of the previously discussed tropical wave, there is a totally separate tropical wave moving off of the African continent that has a 20% chance of becoming a named tropical storm in the days ahead. From NHC: “Another tropical wave just emerging off the coast of Africa is currently associated with an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Some slow development of this system is possible through the middle portion of next week as it moves slowly to the west-northwest or northwest over the eastern tropical Atlantic.”
