WARM FIRST HALF, COOLER SECOND HALF OF WEEK AHEAD… Warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine are happening on this Sunday, but we’ve changes on the way! Two cold fronts are slated to move by our region from northwest to southeast this week, ushering in progressively cooler temperatures. We’re also keeping tabs on two weak tropical waves in the tropics. Let’s look at your forecast details…

BIG TEMPERATURE GRADIENT ACROSS USA… While our local area is in the mid-80s early this evening, a few hundred miles to our northwest in Arkansas, they’re in the 60s. Oklahoma is in the 50s, and Colorado and Wyoming are in the 30s, 20s, and even 10s on this Sunday. Some of this cooler, more fall-like air will be moving our way over the next 48 hours. Cold front number 1 will move by midweek, with another cold front set to move by around Saturday.

SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK… No severe weather issues are expected with the first cold front that will move across our area on Wednesday. While convective showers and thunderstorms are possible during the upcoming weekend with the advance of antoher cold front, at this point, it looks like upper-level winds will be unsupportive of a severe weather potential. Obivously this could change, so be sure to check back with me in the days ahead as the situation continues to evolve.

TROPICAL UPDATE… We’re monitoring one area of low pressure to the east of Nicaragua and Honduras in the Caribbean Sea that will move westward toward Central America over the next few days. That area of disturbed weather (INVEST 94L) has a 20% chance of becoming a tropical storm as it moves west. Early model indications point to signficiant rainfall for central America and a westerly track. Another tropical wave is about 500 miles east of the Windward Islands in the tropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
Development, if any, will happen in the next 48 hours. That system will move into a hostile environment with lots of atmospheric shear that will probably rip the system apart in the next few days. Good news! The Gulf of Mexico is QUIET, with no tropical issues expected over the next few days.
