HEAVY RAIN & STRONG STORMS AHEAD THIS WEEK… 4 to 6 inches of total rainfall this week will be possible as an active pattern sets up Tuesday with no real end in sight. Heavy rain will be possible at times this week, particularly Tuesday evening into Wednesday. There could be some thunder mixed in with the heavy rain midweek ahead of another potential severe weather setup on Thursday. The attached graphic highlights the Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) valid for the next 5 days. A few more Sunday evening forecast notes are below.
AN UPDATE ON THE SEVERE WEATHER SETUP FOR THURSDAY… Our next chance of strong to severe thunderstorms will likely happen on Thursday, March 25 (4 days from now) when an area of low pressure passes well to our northwest. This means our local area will again be in the volatile, unstable warm sector of this system. Confidence is fairly high that strong storms will be around, but there are considerable model differences in just how widespread severe storms will be across the Deep South. There also are key differences in specific setup areas for the severe storms. Some models show more of an issue for our local area in south Alabama and northwest Florida while other models show bigger issues to our north and west. We will monitor trends over the next few days and bring you the latest in the RedZone Weather app.
QUIET OVERNIGHT; MOSTLY SUNNY MONDAY… Overnight lows will be in the mid- to upper-40s across the region tonight with mostly clear skies. We get quite a bit of sunshine on Monday locally ahead of many days with rain chances. Get out and enjoy the sunshine tomorrow if you can as there will probably be limited opportunities to do that through at least Saturday. High temperatures on Monday will be in the mid-70s.
APP ALERTS… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
