MAINLY SUNNY TODAY; COLDER AIR ARRIVES THIS WEEKEND… Skies will remain mostly sunny on this Friday with high temperatures near 70 this afternoon. A cold front will move across the region Saturday night into Sunday, paving the way for much cooler temperatures on Sunday into Monday. This passing frontal boundary may also briefly cause a few showers to happen, most likely in the form of rain across inland areas of south Alabama. The overall chance of any wintry precipitation or snow flurries remains quite low. I expect most locales to remain completely dry with the bigger headline being the much colder air slated to arrive behind the advancing cold front. More sunshine is expected early next week ahead of a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms on Thursday. A few more Friday morning forecast notes are below.

LOW-END CHANCE OF A FEW SHOWERS SATURDAY NIGHT… A cold front will move across our region from northwest to southeast on Saturday night, bringing with it perhaps just enough moisture to squeeze out a few rain showers across inland areas of southwest Alabama late Saturday night. We note that moisture content WILL be limited, thus likely cancelling the potential for any rain for much of the area. IF showers develop Saturday night, there is a low-end chance there may be some snow flurries in the mix as well. Note that regardless of if snow flurries happen or precipitation is limited to “just rain,” impacts are expected to be very limited. Winter weather impacts are currently not expected across the local area Saturday night.

MORE SUNSHINE EARLY NEXT WEEK… Sunny skies are in store for Monday and Tuesday. High temperatures will be in the 60s with overnight lows likely to be in the 30s.

STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE THURSDAY… Our next real chance of active weather happens on Thursday as a cold front approaches from the northwest. Several weather models are highlighting the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms across much of the Deep South, potentially including part of our local area in south Alabama and northwest Florida. It is far too early to know specifics on when and where the greatest tornado threat may set up. We will focus on that as we continue to gather more data in the days ahead. Please check back in next week for further updates.
