EXTREME HEAT & P.M. STORMS TODAY & TUESDAY; SLIGHTLY COOLER BY WEDNESDAY… An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for ALL local counties on this Monday as heat index values of 110-115° are expected across the entire region this afternoon into this evening. We have today and one more day of extreme temperatures and humidity before a weak cold front moves into our region from the northwest late Tuesday evening. This frontal boundary will usher in slightly cooler, drier air. Scattered thunderstorms will become possible this afternoon into this evening, although not every community will have rain before the end of the day.
TEMPORARY RELIEF FROM EXTREME HEAT MIDWEEK… Overnight lows on Wednesday morning will be in the upper-60s inland with temperatures closer to 70 near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches. Instead of highs being near 100° in the afternoon hours, temperatures will peak in the low-90s on Wednesday and Thursday. Unfortunately, temperatures and humidity will increase somewhat as we get into the upcoming weekend.
TROPICS TO BECOME MORE ACTIVE LATER THIS WEEK… No tropical storms are expected to develop over the next 4-5 days across the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic Ocean. We may begin to see a few tropical waves of note in the eastern Atlantic Ocean in 5-7 days, however, that may eventually become tropical storms. The National Hurricane Center has flagged two zones with low (20%) probabilities of tropical storms forming near the Cabo Verde Islands (close to the west coast of Africa) by the end of the upcoming weekend. The Gulf of Mexico remains quiet, for now.
