RAIN & A FEW STORMS NEAR COAST TODAY; DRIER WEEKEND AHEAD… Rain will continue to be likely throughout the day on this Wednesday as an area of low pressure passes just to our south in the Gulf of Mexico. Widespread severe storms are not expected locally today, but a few claps of thunder cannot completely be ruled out, particularly closer to the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches. High temperatures on this Wednesday will be in the

UP TO 1 INCH OF ADDITIONAL RAINFALL NEAR COAST TODAY… Rain amounts today will vary quite a bit with the bulk of the rain happening in areas along, south, and east of I-65 today. Rain amounts will generally be a bit less (0.5″ of less, most likely) across much of west Alabama. 0.5″ to 1″ of rainfall in total is likely today for northwest Florida and coastal Alabama.

TRENDING DRIER THURSDAY AND FRIDAY… Lingering showers will be possible on Thursday morning ahead of drier conditions setting up in the afternoon and evening hours of Thursday. Highs on Thursday will be in the upper-60s. Friday will likely be a dry day with highs in the low-70s.

COOL, DRY WEEKEND AHEAD… High temperatures will be around the 70 degree mark on Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows by Sunday morning will be in the low-40s in many spots. Partly cloudy skies are expected throughout the weekend with no rain.

MORE RAIN EXPECTED NEXT WEEK… Rain will come back into the forecast on Monday and Tuesday as another round of wet weather sets up. For now, it is a bit too early to know if severe storms will be possible. There is a real chance next week may be quite similar to this week with multiple rounds of beneficial rain.

TROPICAL STORM LIKELY TO FORM IN CARIBBEAN SEA… The National Hurricane Center indicates there is now a high (70-80%) chance of a named tropical storm forming in the west-central Caribbean Sea over the next several days. This system will likely never directly affect Alabama or northwest Florida. From NHC: “A large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the southwestern Caribbean Sea is associated with a broad trough of low pressure. Environmental conditions appear conducive for development of this system, and a tropical depression is likely to form during the latter part of the week while moving northeastward across the western and central portions of the Caribbean Sea. Interests in Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, the southeastern Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands should monitor the progress of this system. Regardless of development, this system has the potential to produce heavy rains over portions of the Caribbean coast of Central America and the Greater Antilles through the end of this week.”
