MOSTLY CLOUDY TODAY; STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE EARLY NEXT WEEK… Mostly cloudy skies are likely across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday with a few showers being possible, particularly across west Alabama, later today. High temperatures will be in the low-70s this afternoon. We are looking ahead to early next week as a severe weather potential sets up on Monday into Tuesday. This will be the first potential of severe weather our area has had in quite some time. The last time we had tornado warning coverage was in June during the multi-day severe weather event that caused several tornadoes across our area.

A FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING; MOST LOCALES TO REMAIN DRY… There have been some peeks of sunshine this morning but skies will generally become mostly cloudy across the region this afternoon into this evening. High temperatures will be around 73° in most locales this afternoon. While most spots across the region will remain dry today, a few isolated showers may become possible across parts of west Alabama this evening. If you’re going out for a Friday evening dinner or perhaps to a high school football playoff game, take the jackets tonight as temperatures will be in the 50s and near 60.

MOSTLY SUNNY, DRY WEEKEND… Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday. High temperatures will be in the low-70s each day. Dry conditions are expected this weekend ahead of our next chance of rain (and severe thunderstorms) on Monday into Tuesday.

SEVERE WEATHER RISK ON MONDAY INTO TUESDAY… The Storm Prediction Center has included part of our local area in their Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone valid on Monday into Monday night. The overall consensus from the major weather models seems to be on a risk that would maximize across south Alabama and northwest Florida Monday evening or perhaps Tuesday morning. It is a bit too early to nail down specifics in terms of timing as to when severe storms will be most likely to happen. Be sure to check with me throughout the weekend for the very latest information. Tornadoes and damaging wind gusts will be the main hazard concerns on Monday into Tuesday.

THANKSGIVING LIKELY TO BE SUNNY AND DRY… Skies will begin to clear on Wednesday with high temperatures only in the upper-50s. Overnight lows Wednesday night into Thanksgiving Day morning will be in the upper-30s. Mostly sunny skies are likely on Thanksgiving Day on Thursday with high temperatures in the upper-50s.

POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE #22 FORMS IN CARIBBEAN… The National Hurricane Center initiated advisories yesterday evening on Potential Tropical Cyclone #22, located in the west-central Caribbean Sea. PTC22 will likely become a tropical storm soon, taking the name “Vince” when that happens. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for parts of eastern Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, the southeastern Bahamas, and the Turks & Caicos Islands. PTC22/Vince is forecast to continue moving northeast through the weekend. The system will likely never be a direct concern for Alabama or northwest Florida.
