SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH POSSIBLE LATER… The Storm Prediction Center says a new severe thunderstorm watch will likely be need to be issued over the next few hours across much of central and east Alabama. There is a chance that some of our local counties (Butler, Crenshaw, Covington, Conecuh, and Monroe) will need to be included in this severe thunderstorm watch. This complex of storms currently moving into the Birmingham metro area is producing EXTENSIVE damage…
COUNTIES ADDED TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH… In addition to the many central and northeast Alabama counties that were already included, we have several counties that have just been added to the severe thunderstorm watch as of 2:45PM. If you’re in the following counties, you’re now under a severe thunderstorm watch till 7PM: Pike, Barbour, Lee, Russell, Macon, Bullock, Montgomery, Lowndes, Autauga, Elmore, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Coosa, and Chilton. This includes places like Alexander City, Montgomery, Auburn, Opelika, Clanton, Prattville, Hayneville, Troy, Eufaula, Phenix City, Tuskegee, and Union Springs.
NUMEROUS REPORTS OF DAMAGE IN NORTHEAST ALABAMA… There have been many, many reports of trees being blown down in areas near Gadsden, Anniston, Atalla, Ragland, Oneonta, and Centre over the last hour. These severe storms “mean business!” There’s a high chance that we will have reports of trees coming down in the Birmingham metro shortly as these storms move by.
SOUTH ALABAMA & NW FLORIDA… The radar remains quiet across south Alabama and northwest Florida for now, but the storms in central and north Alabama are headed our way… Storms likely locally this evening between 6PM and 9PM.
