LOCAL FORECAST UPDATE… A field of cumulus clouds has developed over south Alabama and northwest Florida. I expect a few strong thunderstorms to develop over the next hour as clouds continue to billow up and ultimately become showers/storms. We note that the Storm Prediction Center has upped the eastern part of our area into their Level 2 (out of 5) risk for today, meaning a few storms capable of producing damaging straight line winds will be possible. Today won’t be a tornado day, but there could be a few “loud and proud” thunderstorms this afternoon/this evening capable of producing damaging wind gusts.

SEVERE STORMS TO OUR NORTH… A strong/severe line of thunderstorms is entering northeast Alabama. We note portions of Jackson/DeKalb counties in the far northern part of Alabama are now under a severe thunderstorm warning ahead of the line of storms moving in from the north, currently affecting areas near Chattanooga. This band of storms will continue moving south. I wouldn’t be shocked to see severe thunderstorm warnings needed for Huntsville, Decatur, and other locales in north/northeast Alabama over the next few hours.

I’ll have radar updates posted as needed here in the RZWeather app and on rzweather.com. Don’t forget about our High-Level Alert test in the RZWeather app this evening at 8PM.
