STORMS IN CHOCTAW COUNTY… Other than a few storms in west Alabama near Butler in Choctaw County AND a few storms in the Wiregrass in Coffee, Henry, and Geneva counties, all other parts of southern Alabama remain dry as of 1:43PM. Northwest Florida is also dry, other than a few storms on the southern sides of Walton and Bay counties.
Showers and thunderstorms will likely pop up across our region in the hours ahead. Be ready for scattered downpours of heavy rain. Severe weather is not expected today.
On this date in 2005, meteorologist Robert Ricks with the NWS office in Slidell issued this "doomsday" statement as Hurricane Katrina approached… Some national news agencies thought it was a hoax. pic.twitter.com/LXrvXriJ5i

Low-end chance that a tropical area of low pressure could develop as it moves eastward in the days ahead… Most models recurve the system out into the open waters of the Atlantic, regardless of development. pic.twitter.com/2s9rFZlplQ

STORMS OVER WEST ALABAMA… Washington County has been the hotspot in our region where thunderstorms are getting their start today. Storms near Chatom and the Alabama Highway 17 corridor are drifting northward. We also note that small storms have formed across the western half of Clarke County over the last hour.
REGIONWIDE STORMS THIS AFTERNOON… I expect more showers and thunderstorms to pop up over the next few hours across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but storms will produce heavy downpours of rain, lots of lightning, and perhaps gusty winds at times.
I’ll have radar updates this afternoon here in the RZWeather app.
