RAIN & STORMS RETURN ON THURSDAY; LOW-END RISK NEAR COAST… Showers and isolated thunderstorms will return to south Alabama and northwest Florida on Thursday, but not before a nice, cool Wednesday. Temperatures will peak in the low-60s this afternoon with gradually increasing cloud cover throughout the day. These clouds will pave the way for increased rain chances on Thursday, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours across our region. The Storm Prediction Center has included the southwestern corner of our local area in their Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk zone out of an abundance of caution. We’re also looking ahead to a slew of nice weather days this weekend into early next week. Let’s talk details…
CLOUDS ON THE INCREASE TODAY… We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day, but clouds will be on the increase later today ahead of the rain moving in on Thursday. High temperatures today will be a bit warmer than the last few days with most spots topping out in the low-60s.
RAIN CHANCES INCREASE THURSDAY… Showers will progressively move in from our west and southwest on Thursday as an area of low pressure approaches from the west. Rain chances will be greatest on Thursday after 3PM.
LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK NEAR COAST… While areas north of Interstate 10 will probably have no severe weather issues at all, there will be a low-end, marginal, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk in place for areas near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches on Thursday, particularly after 5PM. There will be a brief opportunity for storms to strengthen Thursday evening. Like the last few severe weather potentials over the last few weeks, I believe there is a significant chance that no tornado warnings will happen. Could a brief, isolated tornado happen near the coast? Yes, but tornadoes are not exactly LIKELY to happen. This will likely shake out to be nothing more than a rain event for vast majority of our local area.
WEEKEND PREVIEW… While Friday will be wet at times with lingering showers due to the area of low pressure moving by, Saturday should feature clearing skies. High temperatures Saturday through Monday will be right where we should be for this time of year, near 63° with morning lows in the 40s.
