WARM SATURDAY; RAIN CHANCES GOING UP… Our weather experience today will be quite similar to to yesterday: Mostly cloudy skies are expected with high temperatures in the mid-70s with isolated rain showers being possible throughout the day. The greatest rain chances will happen across inland areas over the next few hours. Thunderstorm action will be limited today but will be increasing over the next few days. Let’s talk details…
RAIN CHANCE EACH DAY OVER THE NEXT WEEK… There will be at least some chance of rain each day over the next seven days. Today could end up being the driest out of the next few days as a stalled cold front just to our north will keep our area in the warm sector. Showers will be possible Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, into Wednesday.
TEMPS TO REMAIN ABOVE AVERAGE… High temperatures are slated to be in the 70s today and over the next few days. Overnight lows will be in the 50s and 60s over the next few days. Why the anomalously warm temperatures? Clouds will act as a blanket of sorts over our region for the next few days, meaning temperatures will remain warm and won’t move very much.
CHANCE OF STRONG STORMS MIDWEEK… There is a chance that an approaching cold front on Wednesday may act as a catalyst for a few strong to severe storms across our region. It is still too early for specifics but models are hinting that a bit of atmospheric instability coupled with enhanced wind shear values may set up to form a few stronger storms in the middle part of the upcoming week. We’ll be able to start getting specific tomorrow. Be sure to check back with me for the very latest.
MAJOR RAIN EVENT AHEAD FOR NORTH ALABAMA… The latest Quantitative Precipitation Forecast now shows parts of far northern stretches of Alabama near Huntsville picking up over 10 inches of rain in the next 7 days. Rain amounts will be in the 5-9 inch range for much of the northern half of the state. The good news is the southern half of the Alabama and northwest Florida won’t have nearly as much total rainfall, with most spots picking up 1-3″ of rain.
I’ll have updates throughout the day in the RedZone Weather app as needed. Have a great Saturday!
