WARM THURSDAY, RAIN OVERNIGHT, MUCH COOLER FRIDAY… What a contrast setting up in terms of our temperatures today versus tomorrow! Unseasonably warm, muggy air remains in place across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thursday. High temperatures could make a run at the 80 degree mark later today! Most spots will end up in the upper-70s with plenty of humidity. Rain showers will happen overnight ahead of a cold front that will usher in much cooler temperatures. We’re also looking ahead to next week at our next chance of showers and thunderstorms. Let’s talk details…

SHOWERS LIKELY OVERNIGHT; COLD AIR MOVES IN… A band of showers will move across our area in the overnight hours and into early Friday morning as a cold front moves by. Atmospheric instability will be limited, thus thunderstorm development remains unlikely. There is virtually no chance of severe weather with this system in our area. Temperatures this evening will be in the 60s but will nose dive after the passage of the cold front after midnight. Some spots will be in the low-50s by 6AM on Friday. High temperatures on Friday will be in the upper-50s! This will be a 20-25 degree swing over the course of 24 hours. Much cooler air!

NICE, COOL WEEKEND… We dry out for the weekend and go mostly sunny for Saturday. High temperatures on Saturday will again be in the 50s with overnight lows around 40° on Saturday morning. Temperatures will start to moderate as a southerly flow returns on Sunday.

RAIN LIKELY EARLY NEXT WEEK… Showers and thunderstorms will become likely Monday into Tuesday of the upcoming week. Highs will again be in the 70s. It’s still too early to know whether severe weather will be an issue, but as I always caution: We must monitor any system like this during this time of year. Thinking back to the month of February in the past, 2016 had two EF3 tornadoes (one in Century/Flomaton, the other in Pensacola). While I’m not suggesting we’ll have anything like that next week, I am saying we must be diligent in monitoring the setups that could eventually lead to severe weather. We will keep you posted in the RedZone Weather app.

Let me know if you have any weather-related questions. Have a great Thursday!
