QUITE HOT THIS WEEKEND! TAKE HEAT PRECAUTIONS… We’re kicking off a very hot Memorial Day holiday weekend on this Friday as high temperatures make a run at the mid- to upper-90s. We had a few rogue storms around yesterday afternoon/evening. While today will likely be dry in most spots, just like yesterday, I can’t rule out one or two stray storms that pop up due to all of the heat content built up in the atmosphere. Any storms that fire up may produce quite a bit of lightning this weekend, but again, I expect hot, dry weather to be the big story. We finally start to get some relief from the heat wave by the end of the upcoming week. Let’s look at details…

HOT SATURDAY & HOT SUNDAY… A big area of high pressure in the atmosphere will exert more influence over our area this weekend. For you, what that means is hot, mainly dry weather! Temperatures will peak near 100° both on Saturday and on Sunday afternoons as sunshine reigns supreme. Overnight lows will be around 71°. If you’re headed to the gorgeous Alabama or northwest Florida beaches, please take the sunscreen and put plenty on you and on your kids. The ultraviolet (UV) index will be off the charts this weekend, meaning it won’t take long at all for folks to get a sunburn. Be sure to check on elderly neighbors that may not have adequate A/C or cooling systems. Outdoor pets should also be checked on. Big time heat!

THE WHARF & THOMAS RHETT FORECAST… Many thousands of people are headed to Orange Beach this weekend for the Thomas Rhett concert at The Wharf. Temperatures will be in the mid-80s at 7PM Saturday, falling to around 78° by 10PM. The chance of rain remains at 5% or less. Have a way to check the radar, but I firmly believe vast majority of us will be dry across the region Saturday evening.

MEMORIAL DAY MONDAY… Sunny and hot conditions will prevail with high temperatures again around 100 degrees at 3PM. No major weather issues are expected other than excessive heat values across the region.

NEXT NOTABLE RAIN CHANCE NEXT WEEK… Early model indications point to the potential for pop up showers and thunderstorms returning to our local area by Thursday of the upcoming week. It’s too early to know for sure whether this will verify, but by the end of next week, our area will be quite parched and in major need of rain. We’ll keep watching this potential and bring you the latest in the RedZone Weather app over the next few days.
