HIGHER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND; P.M. SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS… There is a high chance that your specific location will have rain/storms at least once before the weekend is over. Rain chances are slated to be a bit higher today and Saturday compared to the last few days when storms were far more isolated in nature. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but some of the storms may be on the strong side capable of producing gusty winds and very heavy, localized downpours of rain. High temperatures this weekend will consistently be in the low-90s with morning lows in the mid-70s. Let’s look at your weekend weather headlines…
KEEP TABS ON THE RADAR THIS WEEKEND… Thunderstorms will be most numerous between Noon and 7PM each day. That is the time period when rain and storms will be MOST likely to pop up, aka when we have an abundance of heat content in the atmosphere. You can keep a close eye on the radar at redzoneweather.com/radar or in the Radar tab of the RedZone Weather app.
SEVERE WEATHER RISK REMAINS VERY LOW… While the pop-up thunderstorms can “pack a punch” over a small area with very heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, widespread severe weather is not expected this weekend into early next week. “Severe” storms have to meet one of the following definitions: 1) wind gusts over 58mph, 2) 1 inch diameter pieces of hail or larger, 3) a tornado. We’re not expecting those things this weekend.
MORE SHOWERS & STORMS INTO NEXT WEEK… Rain chances will remain elevated as we go into the early part of next week. Early model indications point to Tuesday being quite wet as a rare July cold front slides by.
EVER SO SLIGHTLY COOLER FOR LATE NEXT WEEK… It’s not common to have cold fronts move so far south that they actually cross through our area in July and August. Typically, fronts will approach from the north and stall out during this time of year. By the end of next week, some slightly cooler, drier air will approach from the north. Don’t get me wrong – this won’t be COOL or COLD air. This will be a bit of drier air. High temperatures will drop back into the mid- to upper-80s with morning lows around 70° by Thursday of next week.
TROPICS QUIET FOR NOW… No tropical trouble is expected over the next 5-7 days. Some earlier model runs this week hinted at a Gulf low developing late next week, but that seems to be off the table at this point. The National Hurricane Center continues to suggest that no tropical storm formation is expected over the next 5-7 days.
