NOT AS MANY STORMS TODAY; SCATTERED STORMS THIS WEEKEND… Rain chances will be at their lowest today compared to the last few days AND the next few days. There still will be isolated showers and thunderstorms around this afternoon, but the coverage of storms will be much more sparse compared to the last few days. Storms will become more numerous this weekend. High temperatures on this Thursday will be around 95° in most spots. Let’s look at your weather headlines today…

SCATTERED STORMS FRIDAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY… High temperatures will consistently be in the mid-90s today and over the next few days. Scattered showers and storms will be around, primarily in the afternoon and evening hours on Friday, Saturday, and on Sunday. While severe weather is not expected this weekend, the pop-up thunderstorms could produce very heavy downpours of rain, lots of lightning, and gusty winds.

MORE OF THE SAME NEXT WEEK… P.M. storms will continue to be our dominant weather headline over the next week. I see nothing that suggests tropical or severe weather issues in the near-term. Temperatures will be remarkably consistent over the next 2 weeks with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s. That is exactly what should be expected for early- to mid-August.

TROPICS REMAIN QUIET; NO ISSUES IN SIGHT… The National Hurricane Center continues to indicate in their graphical Tropical Weather Outlook that tropical storm formation is not expected over the next 5 days. I see nothing this morning on the long-range (through August 23) parts of the major weather models that would suggest any tropical issues, either. Keep in mind, anything past the 7 day mark in “weather model world” should be taken with a proverbial grain of salt, so that’s not to say that we WON’T have any issues later this month. It is an encouraging trend that has been observed, however. We’ll keep you posted if we have any tropical issues in the Atlantic basin.

The RZW app also enables us to send you urgent weather alerts when you configure your alerts settings properly. Simply visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) then tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
