HEAT ADVISORY TODAY; ISOLATED STORMS THIS AFTERNOON… The overall chance of rain for any given spot across south Alabama and northwest Florida will be low (30%) today, but not zero. We’ll have a few storms this afternoon and this evening, but the big story will be the excessive heat and humidity throughout the day. Most spots had overnight lows in the mid-70s with dewpoint values in the 70s as well. That muggy air will be HOT this afternoon with temperatures in the mid-90s. Factoring in the humidity, the heat index will be in the 110-115 degree range by 2PM in most locations. A Heat Advisory continues for ALL local counties through 7PM this evening.

ISOLATED STORMS THIS AFTERNOON & THIS EVENING… Showers and thunderstorms will be more isolated in nature today compared to Saturday and Sunday. There still will be a few storms around by 2PM across the region. Storms likely won’t be severe, but they will produce localized areas of heavy rain, gusty winds, and cloud-to-ground lightning. The rule of thumb is if you’re close enough to a storm to hear thunder, you’re close enough to be struck by lightning. “When thunder roars, please go indoors.”

“CLOSER TO NORMAL” HEAT LATER THIS WEEK… The hot, tropical air mass currently in place across our region will begin to subside somewhat as we get into Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will be closer to our climatological averages for this time of year. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s with morning lows in the low-70s by Thursday.

THE TROPICS ARE QUIET… The National Hurricane Center continues to indicate in their tropical weather outlook that tropical storm formation is not expected over the next 5 days. The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean remain quiet. Good news!
