NOT AS MANY STORMS TODAY; RAIN CHANCES RISE THIS WEEKEND… Showers and thunderstorms will be few and far between today ahead of more numerous storms in the afternoon and evening hours of Saturday and Sunday. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-90s today with heat index values near the 100 degree mark. The good news is I’m not seeing anything that would suggest severe weather or tropical/hurricane issues anytime soon. A few Friday details…

LOWER RAIN CHANCES TODAY… While the chance of rain and thunderstorms is not zero today, it is lower (in the 20-30% chance range today for any given spot) across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Storms will be most numerous from 2PM to 5PM in the core heating hours of the day. You can keep tabs on the radar in the Radar tab of the RedZone Weather app or at redzoneweather.com/radar throughout the day.

MORE STORMS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY… I expect the “daily deluge” of showers and thunderstorms to be more pronounced on Saturday into Sunday as rain chances edge a bit higher. There is no formal risk of severe weather in place, although some of the storms may produce localized heavy rain, gusty winds, and quite a bit of lightning. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s with morning lows around 72-74° each day.

ATLANTIC BASIN IS QUIET… The National Hurricane Center says in their tropical weather outlook that no tropical storm or hurricane issues are expected in the next 5-6 days. Let’s keep that trend going! We note that models have significantly backed off the idea of a tropical system in the Gulf late next week over the last few runs. This is also good news. This is yet another example of why we don’t publish possibilities of tropical storms over 7 days out. The model guidance is simply all over the board with no consistency whatsoever.

APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
