SCATTERED STORMS AROUND… We continue to observe scattered small thunderstorms across parts of south Alabama & NW Florida. Storms continue to produce cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, heavy rain, and brief wind gusts near Flomaton, Jay, Wing, and McWilliams.

I expect storms to fade over the next several hours as we lose daytime heat content. Another round of storms is expected on Sunday.

TROPICAL STORM DORIAN FORMS… Tropical Depression 5 has strengthened into Tropical Storm Dorian this evening. Maximum sustained winds are up to 40mph. Dorian is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Antilles and Puerto Rico in 3-5 days. Again, plenty of uncertainty but this IS a system we need to watch carefully in the days ahead. I’ll have another update later this evening in the RedZone Weather app. This system is still a good 7-10 days out from any potential U.S. impacts IF any happen.

APP ALERTS… Be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app (redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download) and set up your customized alerts. Once you have the RZW app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner), then tap the large, yellow “Alert Settings” button to customize the specific alerts you would like to receive. We have a solution for everyone – folks that want a lot of information and folks that may only want the important, rare alerts. Check out details in the Alerts tab today!
