RAIN OVER WEST ALABAMA; COOLER AIR ARRIVES TOMORROW MORNING… The heavily advertised cold front we’ve been talking about for the entire week is set to arrive on Saturday morning when cooler air will filter into south Alabama and northwest Florida from the northwest. As of 7:46PM on Friday, rain is happening across several of our west Alabama counties where high school football games are ongoing. Rain continues near Thomasville, Grove Hill, Jackson, Monroeville, Citronelle, and Dauphin Island. Areas of light to moderate rain will continue to push eastward over the next several hours. Isolated showers may linger into late Saturday morning before clouds clear out in the afternoon. Cooler air will begin to push into our area early Saturday morning. Let’s look at a few forecast details…

NEXT 3 HOURS… Rain continues to push in from the west. There is a chance that more high school football games across parts of Escambia (AL), Conecuh, Monroe, Baldwin, and northern Escambia (FL) may have sprinkles or rain in the next hour or so. The heaviest rain locally as of 7:46PM is happening near McIntosh, Mount Vernon, and Calvert along the US43 corridor. Showers and a few thunderstorms will be possible overnight. Severe weather is not expected, but there could be cloud-to-ground lightning in some of the stronger storms.

HEAVIER RAIN TO OUR NORTH… Moderate to heavy rain is happening to our north across parts of west central Alabama on this Friday evening. Heavy rain is happening near Demopolis, Pennington, Butler, Greensboro, Linden, Uniontown, Moundville, and Tuscaloosa. These showers will conitinue to push eastward into the center part of Alabama near Montgomery, Selma, and Clanton in the next few hours. If you’re traveling northbound on I-65 overnight, be aware of the potential for heavy downpours at times.

MUCH COOLER TO OUR WEST BEHIND THE COLD FRONT… The attached map shows a current view of the composite radar across the Deep South in addition to the significant temperature drop happening to our west. Locales in Arkansas, northwest Louisiana, and Texas are in the 50s as of 7:46PM. This represents a substantial temperature drop over the last 24 hours, which is what the blue shading in the map shows. The negative temperature indicators on the map are the amount the temperature has changed from 24 hours ago to now. Some spots in Texas are over 30 degrees cooler!

PLEASANT, MILD SATURDAY; COOLER TOMORROW NIGHT… This cold front that is set to move through our area will bring temperatures down into the 70s across west Alabama for afternoon highs on Saturday (some spots in west Alabama will be in the 50s in the morning!). By this time tomorrow evening, most locales will be in the 60s.
