TROPICAL DEPRESSION 17 FORMS IN GULF… The National Hurricane Center has initiated advisories on Tropical Depression 17, located in the west-central Gulf of Mexico. The system will be very short-lived and remain weak before landfall this evening or early Saturday in Louisiana. No major issues locally directly because of this system.

NEW TORNADO WATCH… Locally, we’re watching a low-end severe weather potential. There could be a brief, spin-up tornado or two near the Alabama coast or over west Alabama in the hours ahead. I’m on location this morning, so if we happen to have a tornado warning, I’ll be bringing you live coverage in somewhat of an untraditional fashion, but we’ll be here keeping you posted nonetheless. SPC has just issued a new Tornado Watch valid until 4PM for Mobile, Baldwin, Clarke, Washington, and Choctaw counties.

We’ll keep watching radar trends and bring you updates in the RedZone Weather app.
