LINE OF STORMS MOVING EAST ACROSS THE REGION; RAIN CLEARS OUT BY 4PM… Showers and thunderstorms continue pushing to the east across our area on this Saturday. A broken line of showers and storms extends from northern Clarke County southward to the Alabama beaches. This line of storms will continue moving eastward and will ultimately exit our area to the east by 4PM at the latest. There is a very low risk of a few stronger storms (see info below) but most spots will just have a brief period of heavy rain as the line of storms moves through. The animation attached is the High Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model showing rain and storms exiting our area to the east later this afternoon.

VERY LOW RISK OF ISOLATED STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS CONTINUES THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON… We will have at least some risk of isolated tornadoes across much of southwest Alabama and northwest Florida through the early afternoon hours as the low-level jet stream ahead of the remnants of Tropical Storm Olga continue pushing northeast. The Storm Prediction Center has included much of our area in their Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk valid for today. Most spots today will have heavy rain as the main line of storms continues moving eastward. The risk of severe weather will come to an end as a line of storms passes through our area from west to east this afternoon. The line of storms has already passed through much of Mobile and Washington counties as of 10:15AM. Mobile, Chatom, Citronelle, Dauphin Island, and Millry get an ALL CLEAR since the line of storms has passed to the east.

DRIER FOR SUNDAY INTO MONDAY… Mostly sunny skies are expected on both Sunday and Monday. We’ve taken the rain chances OUT for Sunday and Monday as cooler, drier air will be in place compared to the last few days. High temperatures will consistently be in the mid-70s with overnight lows in the 50s.

UNSETTLED WEATHER INTO NEXT WEEK… Our next cold front is set to move through on Thursday of the upcoming week. Before we get there, we’ll have multiple rounds of rain and storms on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There is a chance that some of the storms could be strong, at times, on Tuesday. We’ll focus on that possibility more later today after the round of storms currently in progress across our region.

TORNADO WATCH FOR WEST ALABAMA UNTIL 11PM… The Storm Prediction Center has extended the Tornado Watch valid for 3 counties in west Alabama until 11PM CDT. All parts of Washington, Clarke, and Choctaw counties are included. The tornado watch has been cancelled for Mobile and Baldwin counties. Small, scattered showers are happening across west Alabama with the heavier rain and storms happening across parts of Washington, Choctaw, Clarke, and Marengo counties. Overnight, there will be a low-end risk of a few stronger or marginally severe storms across west Alabama. This means the chance of a tornado warning is not zero. It’s not a high risk, but there is a low-end risk for any given spot WEST of the Alabama River.

SATURDAY FORECAST: MORE STORMS… We will maintain a chance of showers and thunderstorms across the area through Saturday afternoon when a cold front moves by our region from west to east. SPC has noted that there is a Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk in place for Saturday across the entirety of south Alabama and northwest Florida. Rain and storms will end from west to east on Saturday evening as a line of storms moves through.

OLGA IN THE GULF… Tropical Storm Olga continues to race northward at about 20 miles per hour over the west-central Gulf of Mexico. The system is expected to become post-tropical in the hours ahead as it makes landfall overnight along the Louisiana coast. Olga is a contributing factor to why we have had so much rain today across the western half of our local area.

FLASH FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR WEST ALABAMA… Parts of Clarke, Washington, and Choctaw counties remain under a Flash Flood Warning on this Friday evening. 2-4” of rain in total has fallen today near Chatom, Silver Cross, Gilbertown, Coffeeville, Morvin, Campbell, and Topton. If you encounter a water-covered roadway overnight, please do not attempt to drive through it. “Turn around, don’t drown” is the phrase.

POSSIBLE TORNADO NEAR MORVIN… The circulation center in northwestern Clarke County is strong and very well may be producing a tornado near Morvin. We encourage everyone in Morvin, Campbell, and Cunningham to remain sheltered for the next 15 minutes until this circulation clears into Marengo County. Folks in Aimwell, Sweet Water, Nanafalia are next in line to see this potential tornado!
