SUNNY DAYS AHEAD; NEXT RAIN CHANCE HAPPENS FRIDAY… Other than a few high clouds passing over our region today, it’s quiet and nice on this Sunday evening across Alabama and northwest Florida. Temperatures are peaking in the upper-60s in most spots. We have another chilly night ahead with overnight lows likely to be in the upper-30s, but temperatures will start edging upward this week. We are watching an area of disturbed weather in the tropical Atlantic well east of Puerto Rico and the Leeward Islands. This tropical wave has a 40% chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next few days. That is the summary, let’s look at your forecast details.

QUIET WEATHER PATTERN THROUGH THURSDAY… This will be the quietest weather week we have had in quite some time with mostly sunny skies expected through Wednesday. Cloud coverage will increase on Thursday ahead of our next rain chance on Friday. I see no model indications of severe weather issues or winter weather issues through the upcoming weekend. Good news!

TEMPERATURES INCREASE SLIGHTLY THROUGH END OF THE WEEK… Temperatures will rebound in the days ahead after our big chill last week. Highs will be in the mid-60s Monday, upper-60s Tuesday, and low-70s by Wednesday. Overnight lows will also begin to creep upward as we go into the middle part of the week. Our next cold shot of air likely moves in late Saturday into Sunday (one week from today).

40% CHANCE OF TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT IN ATLANTIC… The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of low pressure a few hundred miles east of Puerto Rico and the Leeward Islands. From their afternoon discussion: “A broad area of low pressure appears to developing several hundred miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Gradual development of this system is possible, and a tropical or subtropical depression could form during the next few days while it moves northwestward and then northward over the open Atlantic. The disturbance is forecast to merge with a frontal system after midweek and further development is not expected after that time.”
