FEW PASSING CLOUDS TODAY; TEMPERATURES INCREASE IN DAYS AHEAD… We’re kicking off a quiet, cool weather week on this Monday with a few high passing clouds. Most spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida will have mostly sunny skies throughout the day. High temperatures will be in the 64-66° range today, but we’re in the midst of a slow warming trend. Highs will cross the 70 degree mark as we go into Wednesday afternoon. Our next chance of rain happens late in the day on Friday as a frontal boundary approaches our region from the northwest. We’re also monitoring an area of cloudiness over the Atlantic Ocean northeast of the Leeward Islands that has a chance of briefly becoming a tropical storm this week. Let’s look at your forecast details.

INCREASING TEMPERATURES THROUGH FRIDAY… After our significant cold weather snap last week, temperatures are set to moderate as we go into midweek. High temperatures on Wednesday will surpass the 70 degree mark in most spots across the region. By Thursday, we could be around 75° in the afternoon and evening hours. Certainly quite nice compared to the dreary, cold days last week!

NEXT RAIN CHANCE HAPPENS THIS WEEKEND… Rain will become possible late Friday into Saturday out ahead of an advancing cold front that will move in from the northwest. The cold front is expected to stall out over the northern periphery of our region before potentially lifting north on Saturday as a warm front. This will allow the air mass across our region to support rain at times on Saturday.

40% CHANCE OF TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT NORTHWEST OF PUERTO RICO… There is a 40% chance that a tropical storm may form northwest of Puerto Rico in the Atlantic Ocean over the next 2-3 days. The National Hurricane Center says this system will merge with a cold front over the Atlantic later this week, but before that happens there is a chance of tropical storm formation. Regardless of if formal development happens, the system will not directly impact the continental United States.

REMAINDER OF ATLANTIC BASIN IS QUIET… The 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially comes to a close on November 30 (Iron Bowl Day!). Other than the system mentioned above, the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea remain quiet with no additional areas of concern in the next few days.
